LATEST2 - Light Alloys Towards Environmentally Sustainable Transport 2

Higher Learning and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

A high priority for the programme is to address the skills gap in metallurgical and corrosion science training. We aim to bring talented new academic staff into the programme, by providing a vibrant team environment in which they can progress their careers and to attract high quality students and researchers – thus promoting a future generation skills base for academia and industry. Strategic alignment with the recently awarded CDT in Metallic Materials Systems in partnership with Sheffield will provide a centre of mass for more dynamic training, with access to a structured PhD programme, allowing enhanced core and transferable skills teaching. The training and inflow of high quality students will help provide the future globally competitive, multidisciplinary, and innovative materials engineers desperately needed by the UK manufacturing sector.

As well as industry led CPD in light alloys, in collaboration with our industrial partners, building on the Manchester Materials Masters Programme; thus, addressing the skills gap in metallurgically trained professionals within UK industry.
