Facilities

To underpin its research and teaching activities, the School has established state-of-the-art laboratories, which allow comprehensive characterisation and development of materials. These facilities range from synthetic/textile fibre chemistry to materials processing and materials testing. To complement the School's teaching resources, there is a comprehensive range of electrochemical, electronoptical imaging and surface and bulk analytical facilities and techniques.

Within the University campus, additional facilities are available. In addition, through the School's collaborative research programmes, there is access to off campus facilities both nationally and within Europe.

Resources necessary to support the learning experience, such as dedicated design studios, CAD laboratories and specialist computer clusters, are available, all backed-up by electronics, mechanical engineering and analytical imaging services within the School with workshops providing custom-made solutions for research projects.

The University's excellent libraries provide access to an enormous range of scientific literature in all areas, including an extensive range of on-line resources. In addition to the School's dedicated computing facilities, there are several public PC clusters on campus available for open access by all registered students. Ethernet speed connection to the Internet is available in all University Hall of Residence bedrooms, making on-line support resources even more accessible.
